TAIKO CLASSES
The School of TAIKO (SOT) is dedicated to sharing the art of Japanese drumming with everyone, from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. Based in Seattle, WA, we offer a welcoming environment where you can enjoy Taiko without stress.
Our weekly classes (45–90 minutes) are designed for 1st graders and up.
Through our step-by-step annual program, you will master various performance styles under the guidance of certified instructors led by Ringtaro Tateishi, a former member of the world-renowned "ONDEKOZA" and performed at Walt Disney World, ECPOT for 7 years. Our mission is to help you enjoy Taiko as a lifelong passion

SOT Taiko Lesson Course for Youth & Adults
Our weekly group classes are designed for students from 6th grade and up, welcoming all levels from beginners to experienced drummers. The focus is on learning together in a supportive group environment.
As you build your skills step-by-step, you will have the opportunity to participate in local community performances as a member of our school group, "Team The School of TAIKO."
For those interested in deeper study, we also offer paths toward becoming an apprentice or instructor to support the future of Taiko performing arts.

INTRODUCTORY CLASS
This is our entry-level class for students in 6th grade and up. If you have previous Taiko experience, please consult with us first to find the best fit.

In this class, you will build a solid foundation step-by-step. We focus on the essential basics of Taiko drumming, helping you develop the skills needed to eventually join our community performance group, Team The School of TAIKO.

BEGINNER 1 CLASS
Prerequisite: Completion of Introductory 1 & 2 (within the last 1-2 years)
This class is for those who have completed our Introductory levels. Our goal is to master one complete song in the Beta Style (drums placed upright on stands) to prepare for student community performances.
BEGINNER 2 ~ CLASS
Prerequisite: Completion of Beginner 1
In this level, we build a solid foundation and expand your ensemble drumming skills using various forms and styles. You will be introduced to the Side-Hitting Style (横打ち - Yokouchi) and learn new repertoire.
At this stage, we incorporate traditional Japanese movements alongside the music to help you develop more accurate rhythms and form.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Prerequisite: Completion of Beginner All Levels
In these classes, students explore a wider variety of songs, rhythms, and styles. The focus shifts toward mastering ensemble performance—learning to maintain a consistent, high-quality base sound while playing in harmony with others.

ADVANCED CLASS
Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate All Levels
These classes focus on refining your skills to a performance level, including the stage presence and coordination required of a Taiko player. Students will practice creating their own solos, mastering base parts, and incorporating various musical instruments.
In higher Advanced levels, students take on leadership roles within the Team The School of TAIKO community performances. You will further sharpen your personal skills by participating in smaller group settings, such as school assemblies.
Additionally, higher Advanced students may have the opportunity to join concert-style performances with CHIKIRI.

FUN TAIKO CLASS
Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate 1 & 2
This class is for those who have completed our Intermediate levels and want to continue their Taiko journey with a focus on pure enjoyment!
While maintaining your hard-earned drumming skills and stage presence, this class emphasizes the joy of the art. Students will explore their own solos and challenge themselves with specific Taiko pieces in a fun, high-energy environment.
Through this class, students enrich our community performances with their expertise and bright smiles!
